SUMMARY:AIARE Avalanche Rescue + WFA
DESCRIPTION:Take the one-day\, stand-alone AIARE Avalanche Rescue and combine it with a 16-hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course designed for the winter backcountry users. Bridge the gap between your avalanche education and medical response. Having solid rescue skills for avalanche response is crucial\, but trauma related injuries account for 1/4 of avalanche related fatalities. Most people don’t think about the next step in an avalanche rescue or what to do if there is any other backcountry incident miles from help. This is where your medical training needs to come in. Outside help will likely be hours away. And let’s face it\, accidents and medical situations in the backcountry can happen even without an avalanche. Do you have the necessary medical training and skills? The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is the first necessary step to learn about wilderness medicine and basic life support skills.

SUMMARY:AIARE 2 Hut Based
DESCRIPTION:Analyzing Snow Stability and Avalanche Hazard\nThis 3-day course provides backcountry leaders the opportunity to advance their avalanche knowledge and decision-making skills. The AIARE 2 course builds on the introductory avalanche hazard management model introduced in AIARE 1 and adds to it the evaluation of critical hazard assessment factors. All students must have taken AIARE 1\, Avalanche Rescue\, and have one season of practical experience after taking the AIARE 1 course. \nOur AIARE 2 courses are unique because we run them only in hut-based or a snow camping-based (tent\, snow shelter) format. This is an amazing way to immerse yourself in the environment while also learning how to execute an overnight in the winter backcountry. Students will describe and discuss weather\, snowpack\, and avalanche processes\, and identify how these processes relate to observations and travel within avalanche terrain. \nWhat You’ll Learn\n\nOBSERVATIONS \n\nIdentifying avalanche terrain where consequences may be more severe\nDifferentiating where specific avalanche hazards exist within the landscape\nLearning how to close gaps of uncertainty through identifying key observations within your group\, the terrain\, or the snowpack\n\nWEATHER/SNOWPACK \n\nInterpreting weather\, snow\, and avalanche observations to make terrain decisions\nMore advanced snow science and analysis\n\nLEADERSHIP \n\nLeadership skills to use in a small team\, including facilitating small group discussions\, promoting appropriate terrain selection\, and utilizing simple risk management strategies\nImplement a basic forecasting framework that can be used in conjunction with and in the absence of local supporting avalanche information
