Intro to Rock Climbing Course

July 26 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
$220

Experience a full day of rock climbing in the mountains of Summit County with a course designed for novice adventurers seeking a structured day of learning and fun out on the rocks. Instead of simply sending you up on a top rope, our certified guides progress the group through a curriculum designed to give participants the knowledge and skills required to navigate the often intimidating activity of rock climbing. This Intro to Rock Climbing Course will provide you with a foundation of outdoor climbing basics while leaving plenty of time to actually climb.

3 person minimum needed to run the course

In this course, climbers will learn, practice, and hone the following skills:

  • Proper fit and function of all personal climbing gear, including harnesses, shoes and helmets
  • Efficient climbing movement to move gracefully across the rock
  • Rehearse several knots and hitches involved in the climbing system
  • Active belay techniques to keep both climber and belayer safe
  • Setup and rappel yourself from the top of the cliff
  • Develop a sense of stewardship for open spaces

We will meet at the CAG office or a convenient rendezvous point, gear up and head to the field. Meeting time is 8AM. We will spend the day in field instruction where we turn the backcountry into an experiential classroom where you will learn and practice your new climbing skills.
