Kick the rust off your avalanche skills with our one-day AIARE 1 Refresher! Designed for backcountry travelers who’ve taken an AIARE 1 or equivalent course, this course combines an online learning component with a full day in the field.
Practice leading a tour, hone companion rescue skills, and revisit the AIARE decision-making framework—all with guidance from an experienced mentor.
A3 sets the national standards for avalanche education in the United States. As an A3-recognized provider, we deliver training that is consistent, credible, and aligned with best practices across the country.
Many students finish their AIARE 1 courses motivated to practice their skills and continue learning, just as their instructors recommended. But for many, these plans get delayed or sidetracked, leaving them without opportunities to reinforce what they learned. Most aren’t ready for AIARE 2, and AIARE Rescue doesn’t always give them a chance to practice the core skills from Level 1.
The AIARE 1 Refresher Course is designed to keep students engaged after Level 1 or Rescue courses, especially if Level 2 isn’t the right next step. This one-day, affordable course gives students a chance to review and strengthen the essential skills and knowledge from their AIARE 1 experience.

The AIARE Avalanche Refresher Course is designed for individuals or groups who have previously completed an AIARE 1 or A3 (American Avalanche Association) course.
