Backcountry rentals in Silverthorne

Get dialed for the high country

Spending time in Colorado’s backcountry starts long before you arrive at the lines of your dreams. Being prepared with the right gear, the right fit, and the right knowledge makes all the difference. At our Silverthorne Backcountry Demo Center, we offer backcountry rentals designed to support learning, exploration, and travel in the mountains.

Whether you’re heading out for a ski tour, taking an avalanche education course, or demoing to dial your setup for the season, renting gear locally lets you focus on the experience—not the logistics.

Renting gear for the backcountry

Backcountry gear isn’t one-size-fits-all. Ski and splitboard length, boot fit, binding compatibility, and weight all impact efficiency and control—especially when you’re earning your turns.

Our backcountry rental fleet includes:

  • Touring skis with skins
  • Alpine touring boots
  • Splitboards, skins, and boots
  • Avalanche safety gear (beacons, shovels, probes)
  • Snowshoes
  • Ice climbing boots and tools

We carry trusted equipment from Weston, DPS, Icelantic, Scarpa, ATK, Ortovox, and Cassin—gear chosen for reliability and real-world backcountry use.

Taking a course? Get discounted rentals

If you’re enrolled in a course with us—whether it’s an Intro to Backcountry Ski and Splitboard course, AIARE Level 1, Rescue, or Refresher—you receive discounted backcountry rentals.

Learning new skills is easier when your equipment is dialed and familiar. Renting through the same team that’s teaching you ensures everything is compatible, appropriate for the terrain, and ready to go- so you can focus on decision-making, movement, and safety.

Fit, setup and advice matter

Choosing the right touring ski or splitboard length is all about your size, ability, objectives, and where you plan to travel. The same goes for boots, bindings, and other backcountry gear.

Our staff can help:

  • Recommend appropriate ski or splitboard length
  • Match boots to bindings and boards
  • Set realistic expectations for performance and comfort
  • Talk through what gear makes sense for your course, tour or hut trip.

This kind of guidance is especially valuable if you’re new to backcountry travel or testing different setups before investing in your own gear.

Rent avalanche gear & stay prepared

Traveling in the backcountry means taking responsibility for your own safety and your partners. We rent avalanche safety equipment from Ortovox, including beacons, shovels, and probes, so you have the essential tools for companion rescue and practice.

Having the gear is just the start—knowing how to use it matters even more, which is why rentals and education go hand in hand.

Avalanche gear can be expensive, and if you don’t use it often, it’s hard to justify the expense. Renting a couple times a season for your hut trips or education is a great way to get high quality gear without the big investment.

Silverthorne is an awesome basecamp

Silverthorne sits in the middle of some of Colorado’s most accessible backcountry terrain. Renting gear where you plan to use it means less guesswork, better beta, and more time outside.

And when you’re not in the backcountry, the local scene is definitely worth checking out. Our partners at The Block offer 15% off lodging to Colorado Adventure Guides customers and host an awesome lineup of community events throughout the year. After a long tour or course day, the whiskey wall at Sauce on the Blue is a solid stop for unwinding and swapping stories.

Our goal is to help you show up prepared, informed, and confident for your time in the mountains.

If you’re taking a course, planning a tour, or just curious about what setup makes sense for you, stop by or check out our backcountry rental inventory online. We’re here to help you get it right before you head out.
